As the sun sets on March 31st, there is a profound sense of fulfillment in the air. This month wasn’t just thirty-one days on a calendar; it was a movement. For those of us in the heart of Abuja’s creative pulse, March 2026 will forever be remembered as the moment the Abuja Alternate Festival didn’t just return, it evolved.
From the first virtual masterclass on March 16th to the final, echoing note at Playzone (Exhibition Pavilion) on the 21st, we witnessed the power of “Industry Alchemy.” We saw what happens when raw, independent talent meets professional structure, intellectual property education, and a community that is hungry for something different.
The Strides We Made
This month, we proved that “Alternate” isn’t a niche; it’s a powerhouse. We took the conversation from the digital screens of X Spaces, to the intimate, soulful corners of Café One and Whispers Art Haus. We didn’t just host performances; we built bridges between creativity and sustainability.
The sessions on artist development and contract basics weren’t just “talks”, they were the structural engineering needed to scale African creativity to a global audience. Seeing artists and creators soak up knowledge during our industry sessions was just as rewarding as hearing the roar of the crowd during the grand finale.
A Heartfelt Thank You
An ambitious vision like AAF 2026 is never a solo performance. It takes a tribe, a village, and a global network of believers.
To the Fans: You are the heartbeat of this movement. Whether you joined us virtually from across the globe or stood front-and-center at Playzone, your energy is what fuels the “Alternate” scene. You didn’t just show up; you engaged, you listened, and you championed the sounds that often go unheard.
To the Artists: To the visionaries like Atela, Jordan Bangoji, and our AFRIMA-nominated brothers The Isomers; to Nunu Eluma, Kenke, Jarell Ebuka, Monlee, Pearl Rocker, Meemah Jackson, wealth Asuquo, and every creative who graced our stages, thank you for your vulnerability and your craft. You are the architects of this new cultural landscape.
To our Partners & Brands: Huge gratitude to Kira, Zoho Corporation, Stream media, Option A international, FillbagPlayzone, DNT autos, DOT Signage, The Big one, Elyton, The Grillhype, whsipers art haus, café one, and Printway, your belief in the creative economy and your support in providing the tools and platforms to scale this festival made the impossible, possible.
To the Facilitators, Hosts & Team: To Olaoluwa Idowu, Nelson Adapioyi, Onyekachi Oparah, and the entire crew behind the scenes; thank you for the long nights and the meticulous planning that turned a vision into a landmark success.
What’s Next?
As March closes, the festival might be “concluded,” but the momentum is just beginning. The connections made, the contracts understood, and the music shared this month will carry us through the rest of the year.
We came, we saw, and through a little bit of alchemy, we changed the frequency.
